The Calendar's Note

The Casal Balaguer, a historic emblematic building in Palma, underwent major restoration from 2009 to 2016, led by renowned architects and earning international recognition, including the Mies van der Rohe Prize selection and the Guillem Sagrera Award. Originally owned by noble families since the 15th century, it was acquired by Josep Balaguer in 1927, a prominent cultural figure who donated it to the city in 1951.

The restoration respected its noble 17th-century architectural typology, revitalized key features like the noble floor, patio, chamber organ, and medieval murals, and introduced new uses: cultural exhibitions, a cafƩ, a bookstore, and spaces for education and events. Today, it serves as a hub for cultural heritage preservation and public engagement.
