One of Mallorca’s most classic bar traditions gets an entire festival of its own. La Fira del Variat returns to Palma’s Pere Garau neighbourhood on 26 & 27 September for a bigger second edition dedicated to the beloved Mallorcan variat.
If you’ve never had one, a variat is exactly what its name suggests: a little bit of everything on one plate, traditionally combining favourites from the Mallorcan bar counter – think frit, pica-pica, croquettes, ensaladilla, meatballs, squid and more, depending on where you order it.
This weekend, 13 participating stands will serve their own versions around the Mercat de Pere Garau, with more than 26,000 portions expected across the two days. Six food trucks will add even more options, with the festival spreading across two squares this year.
Each variat costs €7, with one universal ticket system: buy your tickets first and then decide which participating stand you want to exchange them at. Tickets can also be purchased online in advance.
And there’s plenty happening between plates. Across two stages, expect DJs, live bands and a charanga alongside ball de bot, gegants, xeremies and activities for kids.
