🎶✨ Mallorca Will Sing La Balanguera Together This Friday

On May 29, 2026, schools, villages, cities and communities across Mallorca are being invited to come together for a very special collective moment: a simultaneous island-wide singing of La Balanguera, the official anthem of Mallorca.

Organised by Obra Cultural Balear, the initiative commemorates two important anniversaries in Mallorcan cultural history:

📖 The centenary of the death of poet Joan Alcover
🎼 100 years since the first musical performance of La Balanguera in 1926, with music by Amadeu Vives

Over the decades, La Balanguera has evolved from a literary poem into one of Mallorca’s most emotional collective symbols – officially recognised as the island’s anthem in 1996.

This year’s celebration aims to go far beyond an institutional commemoration and instead become a truly popular, participatory island-wide event, with voices joining together simultaneously across Mallorca.

Two island-wide moments

🏫 12:00 — Schools & educational centres sing together

Schools, institutes and the Universitat de les Illes Balears have been invited to pause classes and gather in courtyards, playgrounds and communal spaces for a collective singing involving both students and teachers.

The initiative is supported by FAPA Mallorca and educational centres across the island.

🌍 20:00 — Simultaneous public singing across Mallorca

The second major moment of the day takes place at 20:00, when towns, villages and cities across Mallorca will simultaneously sing La Balanguera together in public squares and gathering spaces.

The call is open to everyone – residents, visitors, choirs, music groups, families and anyone wanting to take part in a collective cultural moment connected to the island’s identity and history.
