Casal Solleric: A Hub of Art & Dialogue in Palma

Casal Solleric continues to push artistic boundaries, transforming its historic space into a platform for bold, thought-provoking exhibitions.

Ongoing Exhibition:

🟣 Paysage Miró –  El color i la seva ombra

Four venues. One artist. A historic collaboration.

This summer marks the launch of Paysage Miró, an extraordinary, multi-site exhibition celebrating the visual universe of Joan Miró. Bringing together works from major institutions including the Llotja de PalmaFundació Miró MallorcaEs Baluard MuseuCasal Solleric, and Museu Nacional Reina Sofía, it offers a rare opportunity to explore the artist’s legacy across four exceptional spaces in Palma.

Spanning from 1916 to 1981, the project showcases painting, sculpture, and personal archives – a comprehensive journey through Miró’s lifelong experimentation and poetic vision.

A non-linear exploration of Miró’s dialogue between painting and sculpture. Featuring key works from the Museo Reina SofíaMACBA, and more, the exhibition delves into symbolism, primitive forms, and the artist’s later sculptural experiments with totemic figures and found objects.

🎨 Pelayo Varela – The Artist is Dead, Long Live AI

What is the role of the artist today? A narrator, a spectator? How can one approach the meaning of art from the abyss of creation while questioning everything — even art’s very function?

In this new project, Pelayo Varela presents works from recent years interwoven with new pieces, reflecting on questions that have haunted him for more than two decades: authorship, the purpose of artistic production, identity, the role of the artist in society, biography, and the creative career as a quiet act removed from the noise of media and market forces. The exhibition also points toward an uncertain future where artificial intelligence looms as a new player in an already complex stage.

The Calendar's Note

Nestled in the heart of Palma on the iconic Passeig del Born, Casal Solleric is a prime example of 18th-century Mallorcan baroque architecture. Built in 1763 as a stately home for the Despuig family, the palace reflects the grandeur of Palma’s aristocracy during that era. Its elegant stone facade, complete with iron balconies and a central coat of arms, hints at its historical importance, while its interior features a grand staircase, intricate woodwork, and an airy courtyard typical of Mallorcan manor houses.

Over the centuries, Casal Solleric transitioned from a private residence to a cultural landmark. Today, it is managed by the Palma City Council and serves as a hub for contemporary art and culture. Its purpose is twofold: to preserve and celebrate the city’s rich history while providing a platform for artistic expression and innovation.
