The Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival (EMIFF) and Mallorca Preservation Foundation have launched the Cine Consciente series, a platform to raise awareness about environmental challenges through film.
The series includes four documentaries, each followed by discussions with experts, and covers topics such as underwater noise pollution, ecosystem restoration, climate change solutions, and cultural landscape conservation. The screenings take place between September and November 2024, with the goal of using cinema as a tool for social change and environmental consciousness.
The documentaries tied to Mallorca Preservation’s work will be screened during the Environmental Film Cycle are listed below. Each screening is followed by a talk with experts related to the film’s subject.
- September 19: Sonic Sea, addressing the problem of underwater noise pollution and its impact on marine life, especially cetaceans. After the screening, Dr. Txema Brotons, expert in cetaceans and marine acoustics, will speak.
- October 10: Ganado o Desierto, focusing on the use of livestock to regenerate ecosystems and strengthen rural economies. Marga Adrover, veterinarian and project manager at APAEMA, will be the guest speaker.
- November 4: As part of EMIFF, 2040 will be shown, presenting practical solutions to environmental problems while imagining a hopeful future for the protagonist’s daughter in the year 2040. Filmmaker Marga Melià, committed to environmental issues, will participate.
- November 13: Pedra i Oli, a documentary about the dry stone heritage and olive groves of the Serra de Tramuntana. Director Álex Dioscórides will participate after the screening.
