The Soul of the Island: Mallorca’s Olive 🌿
Olives have always been part of Mallorcan life – but their story goes far deeper than you might think.
Long before tourism ever arrived, the island’s hillsides were shaped by ancient olive trees. Their gnarled trunks and silver leaves have witnessed centuries of storms, sun, and slow, patient work. By the 15th century, olive oil was so precious it was even used as tax payment – liquid gold in its truest sense.

Today, Mallorca is home to over 8,000 hectares of olive groves and 1.6 million trees, many older than the villages they guard. Most belong to the Mallorquina variety, hand-harvested on the dry-stone terraces of the Serra de Tramuntana, protected by the Oli de Mallorca designation.
Each autumn, as the air cools and the light softens, families gather in the groves to pick the season’s fruit. The smell of earth and fruit fills the air; baskets overflow, the old tafones (oil presses) begin to hum, and tables are set with pa amb oli, wine, and laughter under the November sun.
Because here, olive oil is more than a condiment — it’s a story. A story of terraces and fincas, of patience and celebration, of generations who have kept a rhythm between land and life. Every drop glinting on your plate is Mallorca’s past and present, poured together.

Fira de s’Oliva – Caimari 2025 🧺✨
As autumn ripens, one village in the Tramuntana becomes the beating heart of this tradition.
The Fira de s’Oliva in Caimari is a beloved tribute to the olive, the land, and the people who keep its heritage alive. First held in 1998, it has grown into one of Mallorca’s most cherished fairs — a weekend where farmers, artisans, and locals come together to honour the craft that shaped the mountains.
Expect olive oil tastings, local food stalls, handmade products, live music, and the warmest of rural atmospheres beneath the olive trees. It’s not just a fair — it’s a celebration of Mallorca’s golden season, where tradition and community meet.
