5 en Punto con… Óscar Florit

A new blog series by The Calendar Mallorca

🕔  “5 en punto” means five o’clock sharp in Spanish – just like our five quick-fire questions. In this new series, we’re catching up with Mallorca’s movers, makers, and magic-bringers – one quick question at a time.

Óscar Florit (Palma, 1977) is a gallerist, interior designer, and artist. Founder of the renowned L21 (now Proyecto Reme) and Florit / Florit, he has long played a key role in championing new talent and exploring avant-garde art forms. His artistic language – circular, semi-spherical, and rounded square forms inspired by stones shaped by the sea – reflects a deeply personal evolution.

Florit / Florit is more than a gallery: it’s a space in constant motion, a laboratory of ideas where artistic practices unfold in dialogue with the present and the possible. Its program embraces fluidity, experimentation, and the unexpected, fostering encounters that open new pathways of thought and connection within the global art ecosystem.

In the lead-up to Palma’s biggest art night of the year, Nit de l’Art (20 Sept), Óscar shares with us what inspires him, what grounds him, and what’s next.

1. What’s keeping you busy (and inspired) in Mallorca right now?

Shaping Florit Florit into a gallery that feels both rooted and open — rooted in the silence of Mallorca, open to the conversations of contemporary art worldwide. Right now, I’m busy preparing exhibitions that aim to stretch those dialogues.

2. If Mallorca were a canvas, what colours would dominate its palette? And why?

Muted whites and deep blacks.

Mallorca has an austere beauty – the limestone, the shadows of its architecture, the clarity of its light. These contrasts are what I try to bring into the gallery’s rhythm.

3. Is there a place, ritual, or local habit that always makes you feel connected to Mallorca?

The early morning walk along the coast in Alcúdia, when the sea is flat and fishermen are already back. It’s a rhythm older than tourism, older than me, and it connects me instantly.

4. It’s 5 o’clock somewhere… what’s your favourite way to unwind?

By sitting quietly in the gallery once everyone has left. No noise, just the works, the space, and the light changing on the walls. That silence is the best drink I know.

5. What’s one event or moment you’re most looking forward to?

ARCO 2026, where Florit Florit will present La edad del silencio – a collective statement with all the artists of the gallery. It’s not just an exhibition, but a way of declaring how we see and inhabit the present.

✨ Don’t miss Óscar Florit’s curation at Nit de l’Art 2025 across all three floors of Florit / Florit. Find out more here!
